Avoid Getting Spooked with Smart Home Security

Tips for Staying Safe During Halloween

Halloween can be a fun holiday, but it can also be one of the scariest days of the year. The night can bring pranksters and other odd characters out, threatening the safety of your home. While there’s probably not a masked murderer on your doorstep, you need to be prepared for every situation. And if you’re watching a scary movie in your home theater, you’ll most likely want to at least feel safe. Here are some tips on how to be prepared for All Hallows Eve with security and surveillance in your Zionsville, IN home.

Use Cameras to see Who is There

Do you remember that opening scene in Scream when Drew Barrymore frantically looks through windows to see who is skulking around her home? If you think a stranger is outside but don’t want to risk getting close to your entrance to see who it is, use surveillance cameras to take a peek. If there’s a kid running around with toilet paper or eggs, you’ll know it. But there are other uses for security cameras on Halloween too. If you stay home to give out candy, you can scare kids who come to the doorstep by turning on a creepy soundtrack, video, or animatronic monster. As soon as you see them at the right point using the live video feed on your smartphone, press a button to turn on the scare sequence. You’ll get to see their funny reactions too.

Lock up While You’re Out

If you go to a haunted house or Halloween party instead of staying home, make sure your property is adequately locked and the alarm is set. Smart home automation makes it easy to turn on your security system by simply pressing a button on your mobile device or saying “Away” with voice control technology. If you have smart locks, all the doors will lock, the alarm will turn on, and certain lights will stay on to make it seem like someone is home. If anything odd happens you’ll know immediately since our security systems send alerts in the event of an emergency. Let’s say for example someone throws a brick into your window. A sensor will detect the activity and send you a text message or email about it. Your surveillance cameras will also let you know what happened by sending you a video clip. You can contact the police and start your trip home to see the damage.

Now is the perfect time to upgrade or add devices to your security system before Halloween gets here. Contact us today to schedule a meeting with our team of specialists.
